30 Injured In 40+ Vehicle Pile-Up On Pune-Bengaluru Highway

The accident reportedly took place on Navale Bridge.

At least 30 people were injured when a tanker collided with several vehicles at Navale Bridge in Pune today. A Pune Fire Brigade official said the accident resulted in a pileup of 48 vehicles

“A major road accident took place at Navale bridge on Pune-Bengaluru highway in Pune in which around 48 vehicles were damaged. Pune fire brigade and rescue teams of Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) reached the spot,” the official said.

Rescue teams from Pune Fire Brigade and Pune Metropolitan Area Development Authority reached the spot.

According to local media, one of the tanker’s brakes failed and collided with several vehicles. During the accident, which reportedly took place at 9pm, oil spilled on the road and made it slippery causing other vehicles to join the pileup.

The accident led to a traffic jam on the Mumbai-bound road, with jams over 2 km long.

Naval Bridge has become the center of accidents for the past few days. A woman was killed after being hit by a speeding car near the bridge on the Outer Ring Road on Friday.
