Since replacing Najam Shetty as the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Ramiz Raja Made some startling revelations. Whether it’s the much-talked-about Asia Cup or the way things have changed across the board, Raja continues to clear the air on major issues. In a chat with a Pakistani TV channel, the former PCB chairman opened up about the now controversial removal. Misbah and Walker were appointed by the PCB as head coach and bowling coach respectively but were relieved of their duties just before the mega event. Both were replaced Saqlain Mushtaq (Head Coach) and Abdur Razzaq (Bowling Coach). chat with Same TVRaja opened up about the ‘difficult’ decision he had to make.
“They have received their full payment for two years. They have been given full respect. As a chairman, it was my right to fire them. Even now, they are talking about removing Saqlain Mushtaq and replacing him. Mickey Arthur. I made the deal in such a way that I didn’t want the board to be left with the coaching setup for three years,” he said.
“We had annual contracts. They (Misbah and Walker) would have left in January/February anyway. We brought in a new management. It was not easy for me. I played with Walker, I spoke to him in detail.”
Raja also revealed that he himself spoke to Walker while the CEO discussed the decision with Misbah. However, the PCB chief confirmed that it was a deliberate decision.
“Talked to the CEO Misbah. Obviously it didn’t feel good to have the change happen a week or 10 days before the T20 World Cup. But I felt we could go with them to a certain extent. “When I was commentating, I realized that a change need,” said the former PCB chief.
