Messi, accompanied by his wife Antonella and children, left for Paris on a private jet late on Monday after an extended period celebrating last month’s World Cup win in his hometown of Rosario.
Earlier, PSG coach Christophe Gaultier said he expected Messi, who spent Christmas and New Year at his family’s home, to return on “January 2 or 3”.
The 35-year-old thus missed the Ligue 1 leaders’ first two post-World Cup matches.
However, he should be available for PSG’s Coupe de France clash with Chateauroux on Friday, where he will once again link up with Frenchman Kylian Mbappe, who despite scoring a hat-trick in the World Cup final finished on the losing side, which is Argentina. Won on penalties after a 3-3 draw.
Many fans saw off Messi at Rosario International Airport, where a large security presence kept them away from the forward and his family.
December’s win was Argentina’s third World Cup success and first since the late icon diego Maradona achieved their glory in 1986.
