Nepal polls: Ruling alliance heading towards majority; NC emerging as largest party

A party or coalition needs 138 seats to get a clear majority and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s coalition is said to be winning the election.

By Press Trust of India: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s Nepali Congress-led ruling coalition is on course for a clear majority in Nepal’s parliamentary elections on Friday, winning 64 of the 118 declared seats in the 275-member House of Representatives, 165 of which will be elected by popular vote. In direct voting, the remaining 110 will be elected through the proportional electoral system.

A party or coalition needs 138 seats to get a clear majority.

Nepali Congress continues to emerge as the single largest party winning 39 seats alone under the direct voting system.
