Reuters: The UN Security Council must take “significant measures” in response to North Korea’s latest intercontinental ballistic missile launch, foreign ministers from the Group of Seven (G7) major industrialized nations said on Sunday.

The Security Council will hold a meeting on Monday at the request of the United States to discuss North Korea, following a series of missile tests this year.

“(North Korea’s) actions demand a united and strong response by the international community,” said ministers from the United States, Japan, Canada, Germany, Britain, France and Italy.

Pyongyang on Friday test-fired a ballistic missile capable of reaching the US mainland.

The G7 statement called Friday’s test a “reckless act” and “another clear violation” of UN resolutions.

“The unprecedented series of illegal ballistic missile launches conducted by (North Korea) in 2022 … poses a serious threat to regional and international peace and security,” the G7 statement said, adding that the country “cannot afford and will never acquire” a nuclear State of Arms”.
