I never realized how tragic this song was until I looked up the lyrics. I knew it was a story of poverty and struggle but wow I didn't realize how bad it was. I mean the father left, they can't pay for food or rent, and the best idea her mom could come up with for a better life for her daughter was sending her to be a prostitute for rich people. And once she left her mom died and the baby got taken by the welfare people. She has nothing to come back too. She just had to accept her position in life and take the money she is now able to bring in.
You all do know that her momma pushed her into prostitution right?
