New Delhi:

Shankar Mishra, the man who urinated on a woman on an Air India flight from New York to Delhi six weeks ago and was allowed to leave, is still at large and is being pursued by two teams of Delhi Police, sources said on Friday.

Police have formed two teams to track him and one of them is camping in Bengaluru, where his sister lives and where he was last known. According to police sources, the sister has been interrogated.

Another team was sent to Mumbai, where Shankar Mishra’s father lives.

The police issued a ‘look out circular’ barring him from leaving the country.

Police sources said investigators have received “some leads” about his whereabouts and are working on them.

Police plan to take statements from the crew and pilot, including an explanation of why the incident was not reported when it happened on November 26.

Air India, including aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has come under fire for its handling of an incident in November when a business class passenger urinated on a fellow passenger, an elderly woman.

When the flight landed, Shankar Mishra was allowed to leave without any reaction. Air India did not file a police complaint until this week after the woman’s letter to Air India Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran was published.

Narrating her ordeal, the woman said that not only was she given a new seat, but the crew also brought the drunken man to her seat and forced her to face him as he apologized and pleaded to avoid arrest.

The airline, which banned the man from flying for 30 days after an outcry, said there were “no further incidents of tension or confrontation” and that “respecting the perceived wishes of the female passenger, the crew elected not to summon law enforcement. Landing.”
