Yash Dhull, Delhi’s middle-order batsman, became a household name earlier this year as the Indian Under-19 team won the World Cup, beating England in the final in February 2022. Dhull, the team captain, received instant recognition for some outstanding knocks, which helped India win the trophy. The Delhi lad spoke to the media after that win and made his intentions clear, he wants to represent the senior national team very soon.
He has since scored 939 runs in 10 first-class matches with an average of 4 centuries and 2 half-centuries in 67 overs. His List A (domestic ODI) returns are relatively small because he has scored runs. 191 runs in 6 matches with a half century.
The performances are good, but given the talent pool that Indian cricket currently has, one would guess that the 20-year-old is still far from the target of playing for Team India.
Dhull, however, started trending on Twitter on Tuesday, the day the selectors are expected to announce the squad for the upcoming white-ball home series against South Africa. Some media reports have claimed that Dhull could be in the running for a place in the ODI squad, which includes Cricbuzz reports.
The mention of this piece of information sent Twitter into overdrive as the youngster started trending. While some tweets were supportive while others debated whether Dhul was a watchable or a more worthy candidate, we saw some reactions.
