India’s star batter Good luck Gill Revealed an incident where he was touched by the gesture shown by him MS Dhoni. In a recent interview, Gill recalled his India debut that came in 2019. It was India’s fourth ODI of the five-match series against New Zealand in Hamilton where the visitors were batting first. Gill, who came to bat at number three, scored only 9 runs before getting out Trent Bolt.
Despite Gill’s forgettable debut, the Indian team also had a poor outing as they were bowled out for 92 runs. New Zealand understandably won the game by 8 wickets in 14.4 overs.
Gill was saddened by his performance and India’s loss to the Blackcaps. That’s when MS Dhoni encouraged him.
“The day I made my debut, the team was all out for 90 (92) runs and I was out for 15 (9). I was sitting there feeling sad that I had scored only 9 runs on my debut and that India had lost the match. So, Mahi Bhai came and watched. That I am very sorry. I was about 18 or 19 years old then. He told me, ‘At least your debut was better than mine.’ Then he started laughing and joking and I was touched by that gesture,” Gill said on the show ‘Dil Diyaan Galan’ hosted by Sonam Bajwa.

It is worth noting that MS Dhoni got out for the Golden Ducks in his first international game. It was an ODI match against Bangladesh in Chittagong.
Talking about Gill, he has been picked for India’s three-match T20I and ODI series against New Zealand. He is also in the announced squad for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh.
